Enjoy The Best Of The Canaries With Tenerife Hotels
The popular island of Tenerife is the largest of the Canaries and attracts millions of tourists from all over Europe every year. It has long been a popular destination and its large resorts have earned it a reputation as one of Europe’s top holiday destinations. With rugged volcanic mountain ranges, white-sand beaches, and charming traditional towns and a fabulous climate, it offers something for everyone. Tenerife hotels range from elegant agroturismo guesthouses to grand beachfront accommodation.
The travel guides always trot out the line that there are two Tenerifes: the well-developed and vibrant south and the rugged, mountainous north. In Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos, for example, visitors can expect to find lots of restaurants chock-a-block with happy customers and impressive beachfront hotels lining a strip which really comes alive after sunset. These resorts are ideal for families and groups looking for a week of fun-filled activities and fantastic weather. The palatial 5-star Costa Adeje Gran Hotel, for example, is one of the finest hotels in Tenerife, boasting no fewer than four swimming pools and a whole host of great activities.
Whereas there might not be anything unique about the resorts in the south of Tenerife, the north of the island is a different story altogether. The picturesque town of San Cristobal de La Laguna, for example, is at the foot of tree-swathed mountains with views of fertile plains and Tenerife’s capital Santa Cruz. This original Spanish colonial town includes several fine churches and rows of elegant houses dating back to the sixteenth century, and has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status. The rugged terrain surrounding San Cristobal remains relatively unspoilt by commercial tourism and, with its cooler climate, is perfect for hikers and those looking something more sedate and restful.
In the middle of Tenerife, the Mount Teide National Park is probably the most breathtaking spot on the island. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the island by taking a cable car to the top of Spain’s tallest peak, which is surrounded by a moonlike volcanic landscape. Another popular day trip option is to hire a boat to go whale and dolphin watching in the crystalline waters between Tenerife and the neighbouring island of La Gomera.
Tenerife’s superb climate has earned it the nickname ‘The Island of Eternal Spring’ (Isla de la Eterna Primavera), so whatever your budget and whenever you want to visit you’re sure to find the perfect place for you from the wide range of Tenerife hotels.
