Modern Opening of the Mouth Ritual on a Statue

The Fiskars X-Series: Making The Old New Again

As long as there have been people, people have been looking for faster, easier ways to do things.

Starting with the earliest primitive implements, made of blunt stone and sticks, axes in their various forms have played a substantial role in the history of human development. Historically, axes have been used for felling trees, chopping wood, as a weapon for the hunt or in battle, and as an accessory symbolizing power and status in rituals past and present. As time went on man learned to craft axes out of different materials such as copper, bronze, iron and steel. The axe head was crafted in different designs and styles to accomplish varied tasks from felling trees, to cutting logs, to using and adze to form flat cuts on logs. As other innovations were added, first the village blacksmith and, later, specialized companies took over the process of making axes.

The Fiskars company has been specialized in manufacturing forged steel cutting implements since the mid-1600s. The Fiskars Company, founded in the middle of the 1600s, is Finland's oldest going concern. The village of Fiskars where the company was founded has long been a center of art and design where modern aesthetics are blended with old world craftsmanship . Toiling in workshops powered by old-world water wheels, Fiskars craftsmen made nails, wire and hoes, and went on to create the knife works. Since then they have been leaders in the cutting tool industry, with products from inside the house to outside in the garden. You might actually know the Fiskars Company from their world famous scissors, the ones with the famous orange handles.

In the world of axes, Fiskars is leading the way with their innovative X-Series. It begins with the Fiskars X5 8-inch hatchet, and goes up to the X27 Splitting Axe with a 36-inch handle. Whichever size is right for your needs, you can be sure you're getting a first-rate cutting tool. The head of every X-Series axe is sharpened using a proprietary grinding technique, yeilding a sharper blade that powers through the wood. The hardened forged carbon steel, a Fiskars specialty, keeps the blade sharper, longer. A special non-stick coating on the blade helps the axe slice through the wood, and reduces sticking. Fiskars "PermaHead" design permanently bonds the axe head to the handle (itself made of extremely durable "FiberComp"), so you get a really durable, virtually unbreakable tool.

The shock absorbing FiberComp handle is lightweight and yet stronger than steel. The non-slip grip helps improve control and reduce hand strain. Fiskars X-Series axes are perfectly balanced and use a power-to-weight ratio that increases swing speed to multiply power, much like an aluminum baseball bat. Fiskars X-Series axes come with a cleverly designed sheath, featuring an easy open lock and loop for easy storage on the wall of your garage or shed. The sheath helps keep the blade safe from damage, and keeps the user safe from accidental injury.

Regardless of whether you need a compact hatchet for small jobs and camping, or a behemoth 36-inch splitting axe to get some serious log-splitting done, you can't go wrong with a member of the Fiskars X-Series. If all the innovative features aren't enough, every Fiskars axe is guaranteed for life, if you ever manage to damage or break one. So get your hands on an X5, X7, X17 or X27, get out there and get chopping!
